Java was developed by engineers from Sun Microsystems. With the success of Java, Sun have set up a subsidiary JavaSoft which is responsible for keeping the Java 'wave' rolling and this site is a good starting off point for Java exploration. If you are interested in downloading information about Java and related technologies such as JDBC then the JavaSoft download site is a good place to visit.

For those of you developing Java applications rather than applets, Object Design Inc. have their Persistent Storage Engine (PSE) for Java which can be downloaded for free from their web site. This allows you to make your Java objects persistent. Support for transactions and other functionality commonly found in relational databases is provided in the PSE Pro version which cannot be downloaded for free.
